CIRES Research Unit in Macroeconomics and Modeling

The CIRES Macroeconomics and Modeling Research Unit held a strategic meeting to present its activities and research priorities.

On February 10, 2026, CIRES’s Macroeconomics and Modeling Research Unit (UR.MM) held an introductory meeting to present its activities. This strategic meeting, chaired by Dr. Boyé Roméo, Head of the Unit, marks an important step in consolidating the Center’s macroeconomic research activities.

A UNIT IN THE SERVICE OF ECONOMIC POLICY

The main objective of this meeting was to present the vision and priorities of the unit, which was created to meet the needs of national authorities and contribute to the development of relevant economic solutions, in close collaboration with international institutions.

A brief historical overview highlighted the commitment of the unit’s successive leaders, notably Professors Mama Ouattara, Kouassi Eugène, N’Guessan Josué, and Dr. Boyé Roméo.

Among the unit’s major achievements are:

  • The production of a report on the emerging economy;
  • The development of a macroeconometric model beginning in 2012;
  • The publication of high-level scientific articles, notably in the Cahiers du CIRES and other recognized academic journals;
  • A stance of scientific neutrality in the analysis of the Ivorian economy.

To ensure optimal operation, the unit has adopted a structured organization comprising:

  • A Director: Dr. Boyé Roméo
  • An Assistant Director: Dr. Gbéhi Grâce
  • A Secretary
  • Research members

STRATEGIC FOCUS AREAS AND PRIORITY ACTIVITIES

1-The Annual Report on the State of the Ivorian Economy

Topics covered include:

  • Economic growth
  • Employment
  • Inflation dynamics
  • Balance of payments

The analysis aims to answer key questions:

  • What policies and reforms have been implemented?
  • What results have been achieved or not?
  • What factors explain the observed performance?
  • What outlooks and recommendations should be formulated?

2-Development and improvement of macroeconomic models

  • The macroeconometric model
  • The Input-Output (I-O) model
  • The accounting model
  • The Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model
  • The Dynamic Stochastic General Equilibrium (DSGE) model
  • Multi-agent models

The meeting also provided an opportunity for members, both in person and online, to discuss prospects for collaboration and capacity building.
